Guiding forest bath #8 became reality thanks to @maakbar_circulair and Bold Branders. It was first time I was guiding in a combination of rain and cold. There was also snow flurry, this kind of falling snow that disappears when it touches the ground. Half of participants canceled, but it was again special with the ones that stayed. Listening to them expanded my experience of the forest bath. They were more rooted in the city and even the specific park, so I enjoyed to see the forest through their stories. This forest bath had some humorous moments and people were enjoying the touch and sounds of soft rain. I was dropping into the energy of the forest when we descended in a lower part. There, I discovered also new things like the foam dripping from a wild 🌰 tree, remembering a class by @kikinardiz from @rewildingdrum that the leafs were a good natural soap. The funniest moment of the forest bath was right after. Forest baths are closed with a tea ceremony with tea, cake and nuts. I had arranged the tea set up under a holly tree. It was still raining a bit when we finished and talked a bit. A bicycler passed, saw us and returned, offering his home for shelter - because he thought we were refugees. I almost choked in my last drops of tea. I had not expected this and was laughing because of the surprise. If people approach in previous experience it is to ask what we are doing, not offering a home, beds and hot water. We talked with him shortly, about forest bath as a way to reduce stress and other benefits. He shared he was unemployed and it stressed him out. Still, there was place for solidarity even in cold rain. What a wonderful man. I gave him the last piece of cake. After the forest bath we got treated on chicory soup from the ladies of MAAKbar and had chance to talk in the warmth about transition toward sustainability - circular economy and nature based mental health - and how both can help each other. Today I witnessed ideas sprouting 🌱 Spring is coming.

Vorig weekend had ik een reünie met sprookjesexpert @stridikus in Londen. In de avond bekeken we musicals. Overdag waren we in parken of in Epping Forest. Estelle van @the.connective.space was de gids voor een bosbad in dit eeuwenoud bos. Een uitnodiging was om ons te verstoppen. Ik was terug een zesjarige Wendy op zoek naar Hulst bomen zoals vroeger in de tuin van mijn lagere school. Een Vierdaagse vol verbeelding en muziek ! Ik ben ook blij om eventjes terug in Europa te zijn.

Een academicus in Japan, die terug naar huis wandelt en nog steeds overal natuur ziet. Veel mensen denken dat je alleen “natuur” kan vinden als je de trein naar een ver oord of zo neemt, maar het is overal (rondom en in je). Zelfs wanneer je pendelt of naar huis wandelt, is natuur aanwezig. In Japan passeer ik dagelijks een klein parkje in mijn buurt. Ik hou van deze boom die deel is van deze reeks poorten (in Japans: tori). Die boom doet me vaak herinneren waarom ik destijds voor een Phd in Japan koos: de romantische ziel in mij wou de relatie tussen Japanners, bomen en architectuur beter begrijpen. It was a Japanese garden designer who introduced the jacaranda to Mexico (City) in 1920s. The blooming is welcomed in Mexico as a sign of spring.

Last year, around this time, I was doing a research internship in Mexico and was blessed to get reunited with old friends. One of my friends took me to Oaxaca. Please meet El Árbol del Tule (Spanish for The Tree of Tule). This tree is located in the church grounds in the town center of Santa María del Tule in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. It is a Montezuma cypress (Taxodium mucronatum), or ahuehuete (meaning "old man of the water" in Nahuatl). It has the stoutest tree trunk in the world. In 2001, it was placed on a UNESCO tentative list of World Heritage Sites.

Ooit was in op een februari dag in Mexico 🇲🇽 en deed ik een stage met @anairamor over tortilla consumptie. Door meer over dit “basic food” te leren, verkende ik de geschiedenis en culturele identiteit van dit land. Ik heb er destijds ook een blog voor Mo* magazine over geschreven.
